Answering Hero's questions: 1) The body of the black knight was taken by the government. Who do you ask for answers? 2)The ring remains but becomes non-magical.
3)As a member of the order you know the story well, for it is closely tied to the order's history. Kaldur and his riders had been rampaging across the world, killing participants in the Suian which had been held in Messada. At the same time Kertullan, the enigmatic barbarian who had been possessed by the sword was on his own killing spree. While the heroes of the world were focused on Kaldur, Kertullian infiltrated Mydyr and assaulted the paladin school, killing nearly two dozen before Stasis and Hamel arrived and he fled. Hamel wanted to continue the hunt for the sword but Stasis feared that if he was killed the entire tradition of paladins might be lost. Hamel at Stasis' request continued to hunt for Kaldur while the Knights of the White Sword and the agents of the King of Yellowia continued to hunt the sword and Kertullan. As fate would have it, Kaldur also desired the sword, though most believe he wanted it for the captain of his own knights as it would have been no help to him in his quest to murder the Suian finalists, none of whom were paladins.
Eventually the knights and agents tracked Kertullan down and ambushed him on the Colonye Road. During the assault Kaldur and his knights arrived, with Hamel close behind. Hamel's presence caused Kertullan to cast aside his defenses against the knights and make for Hamel. Vaylos Rosetree, the crown prince of the court of the rose and King of the Elves of Icefia cut Kertullan down with an enspelled arrow that burned him to ashes. Kaldur was unable to reach the sword for he was locked in battle with Kotar Wyrmsbane, the noble of Yellowia and a Suian finalist as well as Hamel and others. Despite Kaldur's resistance his riders dragged him out of the fight just as Stasis arrived to challenge him. With the sword captured and imprisoned Hamel began to spread the word that it was safe for paladins to travel the world again. Soon after, his words and deeds as well as those of other paladins of Hemator so greatly increased her power (by example to the people) that she left the Council of the Powers. Hamel resumed his hunt for Kaldur and with the help of Michael Harticutt, the king of Yellowia, as well as Darkwind and Marcus Archir, the first Grandmaster of the Knights of the White Sword, eventually imprisoned Kaldur on the lower planes for a time. Hamel's safe return from that triumph was his last great act for soon after Gideon Gemblade and Maleva Harticutt, Michael's widow, arrested him and took him before the tribunal of clerical judges in Hertopowlis, where he was convicted on a 2 to 1 vote and banished from Habololy forever.
