Fists of Iron

It has come to my attention that the newest rules for this feat, found in the Complete Warrior, say that each use requires a Stunning Fist attempt for the day. I personally think that 1d6 extra damage is not nearly worth one Stunning Fist Attempt. I also agree that jsut getting the extra damage all the time seems a bit powerful to me. Here are some suggestions:

1) Each morning, you activate the ability for the day, using up one Stunning Fist attempt

2) Using one Stunning Fist attempt allows you to use Fists of Iron for the next ten minutes

3) Using one Stunning Fist attempt allows you to use Fists of Iron in five rounds over the next hour

4) As long as you have at least one Stunning Fist attempt available, you may use Fists of Iron

Any thoughts?

How about 1 Stunning Fist attempt allows you to use Fists of Iron for the next (1/2 Character Level + Wis mod) rounds, similar to Stunning Fist DC.

What did Fists of Iron used to do? Also before you modify it make sure it isn't a gateway feat becaus some gateway feats are less powerful because they open up they way for bigger and better things.

I cannot find any feats for which it is a prerequisite.

The original version just gave you +1d6 damage all the time on unarmed attacks.

For the record I don't think a d6 is especially powerful but if I am out voted I would go for option one or four on DM's list

maybe for each stunning fist attempt you use, add +1d6 for a number of rounds equal to half level + wis rounds. (for example, if you have 5 attempts each day, you could spend up to 5 at once for +5d6 for x rounds)

if not, i agree with whitesword's choices.

Like whitesword, I don't think the extra +1d6 is all that powerful an addition for an unarmed attack. So barring leaving the feat as it was originally written, I would have to go with either option 1 or 4 from DM Derek or Hero's suggestion

I think +1d6 damage on all attacks is significant. Compare it to Weapon Specialization.

But there are similar feats which add the same +1d6 to armed attacks as well

Bludgeon Foe
Flay Foe
and there is one for piercing weapons as well, but i can't recall the name.

are these feats going to also be curtailed in some way??

Those feats only apply to subsequent attacks, not the first. For a lower level character those feats are not very useful...and completely useless to anyone with one attack.
