To stay with the theme how about a Rangefinder. It could use horizontal lines that are spaced apart at specific distances. If you know the height of something(say the average height of a dwarf or gnome) you can use this device to accurately judge the distance to a target by lining them up between the lines.

Sticky Rope

Sticky Rope is a blend of tree sap, spider silk, and a specialty manufactured organic filler that, when extruded under applied heat, becomes a high strength, mildly adhesive rope. A close observer will note that Sticky Rope is a single, homogenous strand, and is therefore not wound of smaller fibers like standard rope. It is black in color with a shiny surface, and slightly tacky to the touch. Using Sticky Rope when climbing grants the user a +5 bonus to Climb checks due to its superficial tackiness. It similarly grants a +5 bonus to Use Rope checks made to tie a firm knot, splice two ropes, or bind a character. It cannot be used to tie a knot that slips, slides slowly, or loosens with a tug.

The typical sticky rope is 1/2” diameter, with a hardness of 0, 6 hp, and a burst DC of 25. It is manufactured in 10 ft lengths, and weighs 0.1 lbs/ft.

Type: Lesser Clicker

Energy Requirements: None

Modifications: The bonus to Climb and Use Rope checks may be increased by 1 for every +2 added to the craft DC, up to a maximum bonus of +20. For every +5 increase in the Climb and Use Rope bonuses, the rope’s hp increase by 2, the burst DC increases by 1, and its weight per unit length is increased by 0.1 lbs/ft; the rope’s diameter is not affected by this modification.

Design Type: Materials

Co-Ex Lenses

Co-Ex Lenses are a light blue, translucent composite material, precisely machined to exacting specifications. These lenses always appear very bulbous, and are typically fashioned as a pair of goggles. Glasses are far less popular given the weight lenses’ weight. The curvature of the lenses coupled with the nature of the material serve to refract light in such a way that the wearer is able to clearly see creatures and objects within 60 ft that are normally obscured due to etherealness, being incorporeal, or any effect originated from the Plane of Shadows. The lenses effectively negate any invisibility or concealment granted from any of these sources.

To be effective, a complete pair of Co-Ex Lenses must be used (two lenses). A character attempting to use a single lens experiences disorientation as detailed under the wondrous item “eyes of the eagle” in the DMG. The lenses cannot function in complete darkness.

Co-Ex Lenses are typically thought to be magical in nature by the uneducated.

Type: Clicker

Energy Requirements: None

Modifications: For every +4 added to the Craft DC, the maximum effective range can be increased by 15 ft to a maximum of 120 ft.

Design Type: Materials

I need a list of simple commands that any construct, tinker golems in particular, would need to be able to understand.

Thoughts?

Just noticed this post. How is control executed for tinker golems? Verbal? Remote? Pre-programmed actions?

Buttons for completely non-magical versions. Magical could use verbal. A remote would be funny.
